An author should be conversant with writing rules and procedures to avoid chances of violating copywriting policies. In the aspect of plagiarism, I noted that I had some weak areas, which needed improvement. Therefore, the analysis will evaluate the weak areas through comparison of pre-test and post-test scores attained.After I had done my pre-test, I managed to answer seven questions right, and I was wrong on three questions. The total questions on the test were ten hence achieved 7/10 marks. The first question that was wrongly answered was about the citation of common proverbs. After a couple of lessons, I had learnt that acknowledgement of other peoples ideas and work is crucial in writing. It created a misunderstanding to me where I thought proverbs were words from different authors. The response I had was that proverbs should be cited, which was a misconception as they are classified as general knowledge that require no citations. Another area that I misunderstood on citations was in use of some words like era of error. The misunderstanding I had was that few words require no citation. I ignored the fact that they are words from another author. In writing, more than two words originating from another writer should be acknowledged through citations. In addition, I assumed that information like birthdays from prominent leaders should be cited. However, I realized that they are classified as common knowledge hence no citation is required. Therefore, the post-test helped my understanding in these areas, which were later comprehended achieving 10/10 marks.After doing a self-assessment on my knowledge in plagiarism, I noted that several areas required some improvement. Even though I am aware that copying other writers work is an academic offence, I still made some unexpected mistakes through common misunderstandings. However, all the mistakes made can be rectified through reference sources. In order to improve in areas that were misunderstood, I enrolled in reading classes where I took several books and oriented myself in areas and ways of citations. Writing is a process that requires refreshing resources in order to be updated. Through various books, articles, and magazines, I can improve my knowledge of plagiarism and practically exercise its application.
